In Loving Memory: Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Mahlon Miller

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Mahlon Miller, the former owner of Newmar, at age 83. Mahlon died early Thursday, March 30, 2023.

The entire team at Newmar extends our condolences and offers our support to the entire Miller family as they navigate this challenging time.

Mahlon Miller was a pillar of the Nappanee community and a pioneer in the RV industry.

Mahlon began working in the RV business in 1964 working for a cabinet shop. In 1984, he left his post as the president of RV manufacturer Holiday Rambler to become a majority owner of Newmar. In the years that followed, he led the company through a myriad of growth cycles and established Newmar as the preeminent manufacturer of luxury motor coaches.

His emphasis on listening to what dealers and our customers wanted in a motor coach lead to countless innovations that can still be found across Newmar’s product line and the industry at large. Known as the “father of power slide-outs,” he holds several RV patents. He also pioneered the use of full body paint on motorhomes and made Newmar the first manufacturer to integrate awnings into the structure of the coach. For these innovations, his work to advance the industry at large and his leadership abilities, Mahlon was inducted into the RV/MH Heritage Foundation Hall of Fame in 1998.

Mahlon Miller’s legacy for caring about and building motor coaches for the way people lived is a key component of our design and construction process to this very day and many of his core values remain critical to our company’s culture today.

We are forever grateful for his vision, commitment to excellence and endless courage to guide Newmar on its journey to be the company it is today. He will be missed very much by the many whose lives he touch and influenced.
