Autumn is here and winter is just around the corner

Autumn is here and winter is just around the corner. On the Newmar campus in Nappanee, Indiana, we mark the coming of the winter season in various ways not the least of which is our service parking lot gets bigger, or is it just that there are fewer units parked there so it looks bigger.

For some reason our mobile customers don’t want to have any service work done in northern Indiana when there’s snow, ice and cold temps in the forecast – weird, right?

Pam and I are looking forward to seeing many of our friends and customers at the Tampa Super-Show in January; hopefully we’ll have an opportunity to see what draws so many people to the south in the winter time. Although from past experience I know that Tampa can be rather cool in January.

Thank you for your interest and support of Newmar’s online media initiatives. With your help, more people will find out about Newmar and will consider our products in their future buying decisions. Have a great winter.

Greetings and Happy New Year to All of You from the Newmar Sales Team!

Greetings and Happy New Year to All of You from the Newmar Sales Team!

As 2010 draws to a close tomorrow, we cannot help but look back at what was a much improved year for Newmar Corporation as compared to 2009.

Overall, Newmar enjoyed a 46% increase in its overall business.  Some of this growth was due to the existing Newmar dealers that weathered the economic storm with our company, while the acquisition of several new dealers in open markets made up the rest.

Newmar was able to acquire 15 new dealers for various products throughout 2010.  Most recently at the RVIA Show in Louisville, the following dealers joined the Newmar family and are awaiting their first Newmar products to arrive in early 2011:

Crain RV – Little Rock, AR
Lasso E RV - Anamosa, IA
    Adventure RV – Greer, SC
Village RV – Regina, Saskatchewan Canada

Looking forward to 2011, we will continue to focus on new dealer acquisition in markets like San Diego, CA, Los Angeles, CA, Northern California, Chicago, IL, Atlanta, GA just to name a few.

Much of our management’s travel is already set, and these plans include visiting our existing Newmar dealer partners throughout calendar year 2011.  Our journeys may even include a sequel to the 2010 Product Road Show sometime in the middle of 2011.  Stay tuned and keep checking the Newmar blog and http://www.Facebook.com/GoNewmar for details.

Again, on behalf of the entire Newmar Sales Team, we wish you a Happy and Healthy year in 2011.

    John Sammut
    V.P. of Sales and Marketing

    The Newmar Difference

At Newmar, we take a lot of pride in the way we do things.  In fact, during the months of November thru early April, Newmar makes sure all diesel pusher chassis’ s are delivered by covered trailers; when there is a possibility of delivery on salted roads.  This minimizes the corrosion due to road salt during the winter months.

Doing things “well enough”  just isn’t good enough here at Newmar.  We never stop thinking about how to make every element of our products better, safer and more enjoyable.   “WHEN YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE”

NORTH TO ALASKA – STILL THE LAST FRONTIER!

NORTH TO ALASKA – STILL THE LAST FRONTIER!
Join us for the Alaska/Yukon Caravan
    June 4-July 15, 2011

The ultimate RV trip is the one that takes you as far north as you can go in the USA…Alaska! Grand vistas of boreal and alpine forests, mountains and glaciers, combined with a wide variety of wildlife are reason enough, but there is so much more! You will learn about the significance of the Bering Sea as a worldwide food source, and how permafrost is a major factor in local geography. You can view trumpeter swans, puffins, humpback whales, sea lions and sea otters in their environment.  You will float in a sea of icebergs while you watch and listen as a glacier calves into the sea.  You will walk the same boardwalks where, more than a hundred years ago, thousands came seeking gold.  You can observe that same free spirit mindset in modern day miners. You can watch bald eagles soar and whales frolic.  You can absorb both recent and ancient history of the region.  You can have personal contact with the First Nation Peoples who demonstrate their culture and share their ways of life. You can learn about the challenges that faced the builders of the original Alaska Highway in 1942.

As you head north and west, the incredible views are constantly changing. A variety of forests, dominated by white or black spruce, exist in Northern British Columbia, the Yukon Territory, and Alaska as the climate and soil conditions change.  Wildflowers are abundant.  Fireweed is everywhere with its bright magenta-colored blossoms that literally function as nature’s clock. Blooms creep up its stalk as the summer season progresses.  Vast areas of forest have been changed forever by recent wildfires.  Over 6 million acres burned in Alaska during the summer of 2004.  We will drive through the middle of a 2004 1.6 million acre burn on the Taylor Highway.

Majestic mountains, tundra, alpine lakes, glaciers, waterfalls, and some of the largest river systems in the world await your cameras.  Wildlife that you might encounter along the roads include both black and brown (aka grizzly) bears, moose, caribou, bison, wolves, and elk, along with Stone, Rocky Mountain Bighorn, and Dall sheep.  Opportunities also abound for bird watching in grasslands, and along streams, lakes, and salt water.  Fishing opportunities are also a great reason for going to Alaska.  Fish for and feast on fresh salmon and halibut.  Kountry Klub caravan travel ensures a more secure, relaxing, and fun-filled journey. Your co-host couples have secured a value-packed, educational, and entertaining itinerary.  Oh yes, you will also have free time that provides opportunities for personal exploring, both during and after, the caravan.  The excitement is building!

One of the unique advantages of this caravan is our method of travel.  We begin with a manageable limit of 21 rigs.  Your wagonmasters travel ahead while the tailgunners bring up the rear ensuring that everyone makes it safely to the next campground. We travel in groups of 3 to 5 rigs. This enables flexibility for serendipitous stops and helps reduce the impact on other highway traffic. Each member rig will receive a copy of The MILEPOST, the essential trip planner and reference document for Alaskan travel.  You will also receive your own custom Travel Book.  It includes detailed directions and the activities scheduled at each stop plus helpful references to The MILEPOST.  Frequent travel briefings are held along the way during group socials!

Our caravan forms up in Edmonton, Alberta Canada on June 4 and disbands in Fairbanks on July 15 after 42 days of adventure.   This allows the opportunity for everyone to seek out places of interest in Alaska along whatever route they choose going south.  Many travel south with their new-found friends in mini-caravans.

Campground reservations have already been arranged. Reservations for tours, rides, shows, meals, and museums have also been arranged.  A complete itinerary is available from the Kountry Klub office. Traveling with a group of friends makes for an elevated sense of enjoyment.  Experiences of the day are shared along with much laughter at afternoon social hours and potlucks. If travel by caravan, especially one as long as this one, in the comfort zone of hosts and fellow Klub members, with an itinerary that hits all the major attractions, appeals to you, contact the Kountry Klub office now (877-639-5582) for information or to register or go to our website www.newmarkountryklub.com.  Don’t wait too long.  This caravan frequently fills up quickly!

Dixie RV Superstores adds a Second Dealership Location in Defuniak Springs, FL

The Newmar Sales team recently visited the new Dixie RV SuperStore located in Defuniak Springs,  FL.  It was “Quite impressive” says Vice President of Sales John Sammut.  Dixie RV expanded from the Hammond, LA location to a second facility in Defuniak Springs, FL.  The new dealership was a former truck stop, boasting 21 acres of blacktop and a 17,000 sq. ft.  building with a 10-bay service shop.  Owner Gregory Lala had been looking for an opportunity to expand the dealership, when he came across the site that had been vacant since 2008.  The property has an added benefit because of its close proximity to I-10, one of the highest used thoroughfares for RVers and provided Dixie RV with the ability to attract travelers in every direction.  The move has already proven to be a huge success for Dixie!   Congratulations from Newmar!   Dixie RV Superstore Florida locations is located off I-10 Exit 70 at 328 Green Acres Defuniak Springs, FL 32435.  Sales and service: 850-951-1000.  www.dixierv.com

    Dometic Recall Information

Newmar recently asked Dometic to better explain the refrigerator recall and answer the following questions for our customers.

    • Explain the problem
    • Why the recall
    • Why they should not be afraid of absorption refrigerators

We will attempt, with this correspondence, to provide a condensed version of Dometic’s program to address a potential safety related defect in certain two door refrigerator units manufactured between April 1997 and September 2006, and the questions raised by Newmar.

This is a safety related recall, and even though only one tenth of one percent (.01%) of the recalled refrigerators have experienced a fire, our goal and responsibility is to keep our customers safe.  The overwhelming majority of our recalled refrigerators will never experience an incident (99.99%).

Initially Dometic notified the National Transportation Safety Administration in accordance with the applicable provisions of 49CFR Part 573 of a potential defect in August 2006.  A detailed Model and serial number listing of the double door refrigerators that may contain the potential safety related defect were identified.  The recall population of Double Door refrigerators was expanded in April 2008.

    The Problem:
After some period of use, a fatigue crack may develop in the boiler tube of the identified refrigerators that may release a sufficient amount of pressured coolant solution into an area where an ignition source may be present.  Potential ignition sources in this area include the refrigerators propane burner and / or electric heating element.  If this solution is exposed to an ignition source under certain specific circumstances, it can result in a vehicle fire.

Dometic, with third party engineers, has conducted comprehensive testing for this recall.  After such exhaustive testing, we have found that the Secondary Burner Housing and a double redundancy set of fuses, if tripped, instantly responds by shutting down the refrigerator in performing it’s intended function.  The burner housing and fail safe fuse system made up the components of the recall kit.  The system is expert tested and meets our high standards.

This secondary burner housing and fail safe fuse system became a standard production specification on all double door refrigerators manufactured by Dometic and remains so today.  Additionally, increased market demand required a new production line with state of the art technology to be introduced and the old production line updated with the same new technology between the end of 2005 through January of 2006.  This technology and manufacturing processes have also been in place since the startup of production in Elkhart.  Further, Dometic has continued to review claims subsequent to the NHTSA recall campaign in verifying the integrity of the rationale and to make certain that other contribution factors were not present that could cause fatigue on refrigerators beyond the recall population manufacture dates.

Dometic’s notification program was extensive.  Mailings were sent to all OEM’s that purchase affected refrigerators, all RV Dealers, All Campgrounds and All owners of RV’s who’s units  may contain the affected refrigerators in the US and Canada. The comprehensive owner mailings were based on owner’s refrigerator warranty registrations and vehicle serial numbers of RV’s provided to us by the OEM’s during a specific time frame of their production.  The RV serial number files from each OEM were sent to RL Polk and run through their data base to ensure all consumers that purchased an RV with an affected refrigerator were sent a notification package.  In many instances the consumer received multiple notification mailings- one from Dometic and one from the OE Manufacture.  In total, Dometic processed 3,236,587 consumer notification mailings of which 54, 048 were sent to Newmar owners explaining the situation, the recall program, listing of actions that the consumer must do and additional resources for information.

A mufti year media campaign was also launched that included Public Relation Releases, Public Relation story-line articles, advertising campaign in all trade publications both B to B and B to C magazines.  We also included advertising in owner’s club newsletters and publications.  In doing so we provided a recall watts line number to address any consumer concerns or questions.  Our web site also provided assistance in communicating our program, identifying affective units and a dealer locator for installation of the recall kit.

Trained Dometic technicians identified RV’s during national, regional and local chapter owners club rally’s that had affected refrigerators and installed the secondary burner housing and double redundancy set of fuses when possible early in the recall process until the dealer body had sufficient supply of recall kits on hand.

Dometic has been manufacturing absorption refrigerators for almost 88 years ……… we invented it.  The problem that resulted in Dometic voluntarily notifying NHTSA of a safety related problem back in 2006 has been fixed.  If any Newmar Owner has an affected refrigerator and still has not had the recall kit installed, dealers can / are still installing the recall kits whenever the situation arises.  Recall information continues to be available on our web site and can be used as a source by the consumer along with our watts line @ 1-888-446-5157.

    Regards,

    Brad Sargent

    Vice President, Marketing

    Newmar Factory Tour-July 11, 2011

What a wonderful group of people I had on my tour today.  Started out on the tour with good weather, and about half way through the tour, a major thunderstorm came through.  Luckily we were inside the building and had to wait a few minutes when the tour ended for the rain to stop.  Some of our customers braved the rain, wind, and lightning and ran back over to the tour office.  I can only imagine how soaked they must have been  in doing so!

All in all, a good first day back for production and tours to start back up!

    2011 Newmar Vendor Appreciation Dinner

Newmar Corporation held its 2011 Vendor Appreciation Dinner the evening of October 27, 2011 at Das Dutchman Essenhaus in Middlebury, IN.  The dinner was hosted by Newmar to recognize and honor its vendors that received an excellent rating on their semiannual vendor evaluation.

Forty seven companies were represented at the annual event, with nearly 150 people in attendance.  This was the 14th time the event was held as a way for Newmar Corporation to show its appreciation to its suppliers for the role they play in the company’s success.

At the conclusion of dinner, Newmar’s President Matthew Miller spoke about the importance of the partnerships the company has with its vendors.  In his presentation he stated, “Newmar depends on you our partners to bring new ideas to our company in order to constantly improve the products we sell.”

Before presenting the awards to the vendors honored that evening, Mike O’Connell (VP of Purchasing) spoke about the challenging business conditions the entire industry endured over the last several years and the effort and sacrifices everyone in the industry made to survive.  “Through it all, Newmar did not go out of business, file for bankruptcy, nor was it sold to anyone else,” said O’Connell.  “Newmar did, however, pay its vendors when invoices were due, we paid our employees, and stood behind our warranty obligations to our dealers and customers,” he concluded.

Those in attendance honored with awards were:

    • Customer Service Awards – Beth Bloss (KIB), Marsha Hinson (Wesco) and Denell Reilly (Dometic Corporation)
    • Salesperson of the Year – Jeremy Buckmeier – Freightliner Customer Chassis
    • Delivery Service Award – Gary Singleton (Charleston Corporation)
    • Engineering Innovation Award – KIB
    • Top Ten Vendor Awards

NEWMAR TO INTRODUCE 2012 BAY STAR SPORT TRADE SHOW

Newmar will introduce its best value in a class A gas motor home since its introduction of the Bay Star in 2006.  The Bay Star Sport will debut at the 49th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, KY that runs from November 29th to December 1st.

    Sherwood Exterior with Optional Paint

“The success Newmar has had with the 2012 Ventana LE since its introduction at last year’s show in Louisville, prompted our company to take similar approach in developing a lower cost version of our Bay Star gas motor home,” said John Sammut Newmar’s V.P. of Sales.  “We feel that the price at which we are offering this well valued product will render our company added  business without taking sales away from Newmar’s  best-selling brand – Bay Star” he added.

Bay Star Sport starts at a base MSRP of $93,450 for its 2702 model with 2 slide outs.  Standard features include gelcoated fiberglass side walls with vinyl graphics, Dometic® 6 cu. ft. refrigerator, 32” LCD TV in the front living area, Dometic® patio awning and  one piece tinted windshield.  Optional equipment available includes partial exterior paint treatment, hydraulic leveling system, slide out awnings and 600 watt inverter.  The Sport will be available in two stylish interior packages along with two wood finishes.

Whew~ Just about got blown away today here in Nappanee!  Winds are very strong today, so hopefully it doesn’t mean that it’s blowing in cold weather!  We did get some much needed rain last night, but I could do without the wind!   My customers today on my morning tour consisted of:  Kenny & Deb Brunell from Stahlstown, PA (which they come to see their new BayStar that they ordered from Ansley RV in Duncansville, PA being built in the production line!)  Also joining us were Vern & Megan Pedersen from Mississauga, Ontario;  Maurice Ducasse & Danielle Rioux from Levis, QB; and Claudette Pelletier and Claud Riocx from Levis, QB.    Stay safe out there today, and don’t get blown awayJ

    Safe Travels~

    Newmar Factory Tour-April 27, 2012

Look at this group!   I had a large group stop by that are Winnebago owners.  They are attending a rally being held in Elkhart, IN and they are all from Michigan.   Charles & Robyn Flowers also stopped by to take a tour of our plant.  Everyone seemed to have a good time, and I hope you made it to the ice cream shop to get some good ice cream!

What a beautiful day today for a tour!  This morning I had a group that half of them are owners and the other half are “looking at Newmar”.  Hopefully by talking, listening, and going on the tour the half that do not own a Newmar, will purchase one and become a member of the Newmar family!   Thank you for stopping by!

NEWMAR KOUNTRY KLUB IS HERE FOR YOU

If you are a Kountry Klub member, and did not attend the International Rally in Gillette, WY, you missed out on a good time.  One of the highlights was to see 15 new Newmar units on display inside a bullding, plus another 4 outside for interested parties to test drive.

If you are not a Newmar Kountry Klub member, but own a Newmar product, we encourage you to sign up, as we offer many benefits for our members.  There are rallies held throughout the US and Canada, as well as special events for you to take advantage of.  Annual membership dues for the Klub are prorated, so if you join now you pay through year end,  and Newmar Corporation will pay your membership for the following full year.  One of the benefits we feel important is the opportunity to meet new friends who share a common interest of travel and discussing your Newmar product.  As the saying goes “who knows the product better than fellow owners”.

If you are a prospective buyer of a recreational vehicle please consider a Newmar, not only for their superior quality, but also because Newmar Corporation is one of only a few recreational vehicle manufacturers who support a recreational club.  A tour of the Newmar factory in Nappanee, IN is a great place for you to begin your research into finding the right brand for you.  Tours are given at 10:00 am and 1:00 pm.  If you are stopping by for a tour, feel free to spend the night in our full-service parking area, and while here you can visit with current Newmar owners.

For information on theNewmar Kountry Klub we invite you to check us out on our website www.newmarkountryklub.com, or contact Linda in our office at 877-639-5582 (toll free).  If you are at the factory, or just passing through Nappanee, IN please stop by the Newmar Kountry Klub office.  The welcome mat is always out and the coffee pot is always on.

Have a good day, and thanks for your time.  We wish you safe travels.

    Happy Monday!

I had a large group this morning stopping by to see Newmar!   Bill & Amy Guthrie from Texas came on the tour so that they could see their new 2013 Essex in the beginning stages of the building process.  It’s always exciting to have customers on the tours who get to see their unit at the “infant stage”.  The Guthrie’s are on their 3rd Newmar unit and love our company!

    2012 Newmar Factory Tour-November 8, 2012

The first picture is of Mr. & Mrs. Krill.  they purchased a Dutch Star through Sky River RV and were here to go over the interior colors, floor tile, countertops and backsplashes.  They are planning on returning to Newmar Corporation to watch their unit go down the production line in plant 7.  They will also be taking delivery of their unit here at Newmar sometime in February.

This second picture is of Mr. & Mrs. Gretzinger who were here today to watch their 2013 Bay Star being built on line.  They purchased their Bay Star through Wilkins RV.  The unit was in fiberglass and Mr. Gretzinger was able to actually screw on the trim piece that his fender skirt attaches to!  They will be coming back tomorrow and Monday to watch the rest of their unit being assembled as it goes down the line in plant 7.

    Thanks for taking the tour!

    Newmar Factory Tour-November 9, 2012

Today on my tour I was joined by Bill & Rose Mary Eagles of British Columbia, Dick & Carol Walker from Morris, IL and John & Linda Grentzinger from Rochester, NY.   The Grentzinger’s are here taking a tour daily to watch their first ever Newmar product being built!  They have purchased a 2013 Bay Star from Wilkins RV in Bath, NY.  They were so fascinated by how much was completed on the coach since yesterday on the tour.  Considering a unit is only in the main production building 3-1/2 to 4 days, it is amazing what can be done!

The Eagles’ and the Walker’s both own 2011 Dutch Stars as well, and are very excited as well as all of us here at Newmar to welcome the Grentzinger’s to the Newmar family!

Have a good weekend ~ Safe Travels

Today on my tour I had Mike Derichie(2012 Essex owner) and also James & Sharon Krueger (2013 Mountain Aire owner).   Both are here in Nappanee to get some service work done before heading south to warmer weather!  For those of us who stick around this area in the winter, I hear we are going to reach 60 degrees on Monday, but by Wednesday have some recordable snow fall!  Have to love Indiana this time of year ~ you never know if you are going to need a winter coat or not!  haha!

Eric & Pam Morgan from Grand Haven, MI area and Dana Merrick from the Indianapolis area were on my tour today.  They were all new to Newmar and to the RV lifestyle.  I educated them the best I could on Newmar and our products so that they may become part of the Newmar family in the near future!

Yes, it is March 25th, and yes there is snow on the ground!  It snowed a couple inches last night here in Nappanee, sure doesn’t look like Spring now!

Today I had the Hershey’s on my tour (Jake & Ruth) and their granddaughter Kiersten Greiner to see their coach being built on the line.  They have a 4318 DSDP being built and came to see it go down the line!  Very exciting for them to see their “baby” in the making!

    Newmar Factory Tour-May 10, 2013

    Happy Friday!

On my morning tour I had Forest & Judith Van Loon, Chuck & Norma Penn, Dan & Jeanne Leininger and Scott & Sarah Stouder.  Chuck & Norma own a Kountry Star diesel pusher and love it, and the Leininger’s own a Mountain Aire diesel pusher and love their coach.  The Leininger’s brought their daughter Sarah and new son-in-law Scott through the tour so they could see for themselves, how quality of a product we build and when they get ready to purchase their first RV, it will be a nothing other than a Newmar!

    Have a wonderful Mother’s Day !

    Newmar Factory Tour-May 21, 2013

    Good Morning!

On Monday morning, 5/21, I had this group touring the plant with me.  5 out of 7 on the tour owned Newmar products, and did a good job trying to convince the one couple to buy a Newmar for their next coach.  We got the tour done before it got too hot thankfully!  Although the winds kept the air moving!

Our prayers go out to the people of Oklahoma, may you find the peace and strength in the coming days.

    Newmar Factory Tour-May 23, 2013

A bunch of us in for service decided to brighten an otherwise dull, cold, rainy by taking the factory tour this morning.  The tour leaders often take a photo of the tour group, but this morning I thought I would do something different and take a photo of the Tour Leader, in this case Michelle Howard, leading the tour.

Over the years, we have taken the tour many times, but it is always interesting and the subject is always changing – in a good way!  The new units look fantastic!

    Hello Newmar family!

Monday afternoon on my tour, none of the customers owned Newmar products (yet!).  I took them through the plant and showed them how we take pride in our products and how well built a Newmar product is!  When it is time to purchase a new unit (or even a used Newmar!) they will consider buying a Newmar after their experience here at the plant.
